Get a grip on history & science with handds-on workshops at Battleship Cove

Welcome Aboard! From 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. A personal group liaison greets you at the main entrance and assists you with registration; s/he will arrange a brief orientation to field your group's questions. Lunch on board the battleship is available for any size group with advance notice (information and prices available upon request).

Creative Curriculum:
Activities & Workshops: Hands-on History and Science workshops begin a ½ hour after arrival. There is a maximum of 35 students per workshop. Please allow 1 ½ hours for students to participate. Students may be divided into groups and can alternate between workshops and self-guided tours of Battleship Cove. Workshops* that can be designed for any grade level, include:

  • Sea Bags
  • Crew Concepts
  • Space Engineering
  • Physics of Flight
  • Plimsol's Line

Dinner in the Wardroom: Enjoy a full, nutritious dinner in the wardroom on the battleship from 5:45 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Dinner is served chow line-style, just as it was for crewmembers during WWII.

Presentation & Self-Guided Activities: From 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. there will be activities on board. They may include: presentations of the Battleship's history, Dog Tags, WWII reenactments, storytelling, showing of major motion pictures, and other activities available for students and group leaders.

Taps: 11:00 PM Lights Out! Campers sleep on board the battleship in canvas racks, just like the crewmembers did in WWII. Females and males can be bunked separately.

The Next Morning:

Reveille: 6:30 AM. Lights On.

Breakfast in the Wardroom: 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. a full, nutritious breakfast will be served in the wardroom.

Sweep the Deck: 9:00 a.m. groups will prepare for departure by packing up all gear and stowing it on their bus.

Marine Museum or Buttonwood Zoo: At 9:00 a.m. - 10: 30 a.m. a presentation and tour of the Marine Museum will be provided. The Marine Museum is one block from Battleship Cove. (A second presentation at 10:30 a.m. may also be provided.) As an alternative, Buttonwood Park Zoo, offers reduced admission ($1 per child) to Battleship Cove overnight campers. Enjoy zookeeper talks, demonstrations, feedings and training of unique New England habitat.

Box Lunch: 9:15 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Getaway box lunch is available for pickup in the battleship's wardroom.

Departure: By: 4:30 p.m. all groups will have departed.
