HIDDENSEE'S NAMESAKES:
The Hiddensee is named after the island of Hiddensee, a popular tourist
destination in the Baltic Sea. However, she
was originally named Rudolf Egelhofer, after a German socialist and revolutionary
who was born 1896 in Schwabing.
After a
failed coup against the Bavarian Soviet Republic, Egelhofer became a commander
of city of Munich and commander in chief of the Roten Army. In 1919 after a political
revolt, Rudolf Egelhofer was arrested, kidnapped,
tortured and shot. His body was hidden and has never been found.
