Battleship Cove now hosting overnight camping for families

Fall River: Battleship Cove is pleased to announce that families may now camp on board Fall River's famous National Historic Landmark, U.S.S. Massachusetts. On April 22nd and July 9th, 2004, Battleship Cove will host "family" night. Campers will receive all-day admission to the world's largest collection of historic naval ships, three delicious meals, and have the opportunity to participate in other activities, which may include major motion pictures, Morse Code classes, or knot-tying. They will also receive a free pass to the Marine Museum, located just two blocks from the Cove, and a 24-page souvenir guide with a pullout centerfold map of Big Mamie herself.

Battleship Cove pioneered the concept of overnight camping on board a naval vessel. Since 1972, more than half-a-million youths have immersed themselves in history, patriotism, and pride as they sleep in restored navy bunks, eat their meals "chow style" in the Officer's Wardroom, and rise and shine to the sound of reveille.

Battleship Cove is now booking for April 22nd and July 9th. Call 508-678-1100 for more information or visit www.battleshipcove.org.

Battleship Cove serves as the Commonwealth's official memorial for Massachusetts citizens who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, in World War II, and the Korean, Vietnam and Persian Gulf Wars. Preserving five National Historic Landmark naval vessels, Battleship Cove also delivers educational programs that expose a national audience of 60,000 youths to a mission that promotes duty, honor and country.

Battleship Cove is open all day, 362 days each year. Free parking. Wardroom Grille. Gift shop. (508) 678-1100, (800) 533-3194; fax (508) 674-5597; www.battleshipcove.org.
