Learn Safe Boating Skills on board Battleship Massachusetts
FALL RIVER: Battleship Cove and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
have teamed up to offer a six-week certificate course in boating
skills and seamanship. Beginning on February 5, 2003, the two-hour
classes will meet Wednesdays at 7:00 PM in the Wardroom Annex of
Battleship Massachusetts. Instruction is free, but there is a $35.00
fee for literature, which includes a textbook, workbook, and training
chart. We encourage family enrollment, so materials
may be shared. Students will earn safe-boating certificates and
may also be eligible to receive premium discounts on boating insurance
upon completion of the course, which provides strong boating fundamentals
for hands-on sailing classes such as those offered by the Battleship
Cove Community Boating Program.
Among the topics covered by the course are:
1. Boat Selection
2. Boating Equipment
3. Boat Trailering
4. Boat Handling
5. Waterway Signs
6. Boating Rules
7. Piloting
8. Powering
9. Lines and Knots
10. Weather
11. Radio
