Day of Infamy
Battleship Cove plans special Pearl Harbor Day event

Fall River: On December 7, 1941, America was transformed in an instant. Immediately, the call went out across the United States: Americans everywhere were asked to pull together to support one of the most consequential wars in history.

On December 7, 2003, Battleship Cove will commemorate the 62nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by hosting a brief ceremony at 12:55 p.m. -- the exact time of the Japanese strike (EST). Located on the Battleship Massachusetts, the service will include wreath-casting rites prefaced by brief remarks from Battleship Cove's executive director, Captain Ernst M. Cummings, USCG (Ret). Members from the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association have also been invited to share their perspectives on Pearl Harbor and its timeless relevance.

Afterwards, Battleship Cove will unveil the final theme in a new art exhibit, "The Art of War: Powers of Persuasion." The exhibit features authentic World War I and World War II propaganda posters that made the most urgent call - to build up the armed forces.

Encouraging citizens to enlist involved major poster campaigns. Thousands of recruiting posters and magazine advertisements were created by famous illustrators of the times. An assortment of these posters, from all branches of the military, will be on display for a limited time only, and the public is encouraged to visit.

The first 50 people to sign up for a tour of the exhibit on December 7th will receive an American flag lapel pin.
